Built by American Car & Foundry in 1903, 1826 was part of an order of 400 gondolas placed by the Denver & Rio Grande Western. It was modified into a “high side gon” in 1924, and into a “pipe gon” in the 1950’s for use in the oil industry near Farmington, NM. In 1968, it was sold to a scrapper.
Update Note, April 26, 2019 – Way back in 2002, when I acquired this car, a bit of detective work was needed to establish its number as it was devoid of any markings. What was known was that it was one of three D&RGW high side gondolas sold to …
